All Saints’ Day, 1 November 2020

The joy of the Lord is my strength.
(Nehemiah 8:10)

Dear friends,

We hope you find something of interest and worth in the ‘Walmsley Parish News’ sent to you each week?? The Newsletter is the first attachment (of that title); please click to open and read it.

There are some powerful prayers from folk you will know in our (1.) ‘Walmsley Parish Prayers’ leaflet.

Following Canon Peter’s challenge in last week’s e-mail, we wonder what acts of kindness you have been able to practise this week? Please do share if you have made a difference…

The Newsletter includes some of Reverend Carol’s reflections in her sermons and also the sermon given at St. Anne’s by Canon Peter on Bible Sunday.

Please know that you continue to be in our thoughts and prayers.

Stay safe and keep well.
Love and blessings,

Reverend Carol Hayden,
Jane Dent – former Church Warden, Iain Stewart – Church Warden
& Dawn Hitchen – Church Warden + Authorised Lay Minister for Pastoral Care

Sunday’s online Team Service

Remembering loved ones: a service for All Saints and All Souls tide.

There is no opportunity to come together to remember loved ones this year, but the online service this week provides time for families or individuals to remember a loved one. Please do share the link with those you think might benefit. The recorded service will be led by Canon Peter Reiss, and will have space and focus to reflect, with an opportunity for remembering those who have died, including a time for families to light a candle of their own and remember those they love at the appropriate part of the service, or perhaps light it at the beginning. You might also consider having a Watch Party or watching in different homes but at the same time. It will be available as usual from 8.00am on Sunday on the Turton Moorland Team Youtube channel.

Virtual Evening Prayer

From our own Walmsley Parish, we share with you another ‘VIRTUAL EVENING PRAYER’ recorded in church and led this week by John Evans (Authorised Lay Minister for Worship) who also gives a reflection. Dawn Hitchen (Church Warden & ALM) reads from the Old Testament, and the New Testament reading is given by Adrian Golland. Those of you who usually attend Evensong at Christ Church Walmsley may wish to wait until 6.30pm for an element of ‘normality’, but this link is available to watch NOW.

Worship at home

For wonderful ‘Worship at Home’ resources for adults and children on the Team Website.

New and exciting materials are created each week by Revd Jan Ainsworth, Jan Bennett (ALM for worship) & Jo Haslam (ALM for Youth Ministry + Children Changing Places Project member).

Amazon Smile

Louise Hitchen, our Bookings Manager at Walmsley Parish Community Hall, has set up Walmsley Parish PCC to be a registered charity with Amazon Smile, a venture that allows supporters to make Amazon purchases as normal, but 0.5% of the sale will go – at no cost to yourself – to Walmsley Parish (The Parochial Church Council Of The Ecclesiastical Parish Of Christ Church, Walmsley With St Andrews, Bromley Cross).

Walmsley Parish Community Hall – Events & News

ACTIVE AFTERSCHOOL
This week, Active Afterschool held their first holiday club in the Parish Community Hall and it’s been an incredible success. With around 25 children attending each day, the Hall became a hive of activity and laughter. They opened from 8am to 6pm and had fun packed days both in the Hall and in the surrounding grounds. This week has seen them pumpkin picking (all hidden around the grounds) and carving, walks with a scavenger hunt, watching movies and meeting and learning about a variety of exotic animals including snakes, blue tongued lizards, owls and millipedes. They also had a range of toys, games and arts & crafts to keep the everyone entertained throughout the day. The feedback they received from parents and children has been incredible and they’re already busy planning their Christmas holiday club. If you would like any more information on the holiday clubs, please contact Nic on 07875 420770 or email.

THANK YOU EDNA!
After many years of dedicated service cleaning the Hall, Edna Walker has decided to hang up her mop – well, pass it on to Sonia, her co-worker and colleague.

We thank Edna for her conscientiousness and care in keeping the Hall clean and ready for use by so many groups …and after parties; we wish you a long and happy retirement. We also thank Sonia for agreeing to take on the role.
