Advent Prayer and Activity Day at St. Andrew’s Church, BX: Saturday 23rd November 10am – 4pm

Folk shared their talents and skills on an Advent/Christmas theme with time for prayer at the beginning, at lunchtime and at the close of the day’s activities.

The first craft activity was demonstrated by Jenny M, who helped us to cross stitch tiny ‘Crosses in your pocket’ … as given to parents at their child’s baptism. Edna W then created an amazing Advent wreath and Susan O’H showed us how to make cute (walnut whip) snowmen!!

Following a delicious lunch – provided by the ladies of St. Andrew’s – Gwen Ch gave us a lesson on how to make shiny Bethlehem Stars … and child-friendly globe decorations made from cup cake cases!

Katie T then produced a huge tub of gingerbread stars, men, reindeers (= upside down gingerbread men!!!) which, in true ‘Blue Peter’ style, she had made earlier. Katie guided us to decorate these with ingenious icing pipe bags and mini M&Ms!! Everyone participated and thoroughly enjoyed the activities.

Grace Ch showed us her beautiful grave pots, which she creates each Christmas and we ended the day singing Christmas Carols led by the ‘Singing with friends’ group, which meets on a Thursday afternoon at Walmsley Parish Community Hall. Christmas really IS coming!!

How lovely it was to spend a cold, icy day in the warm company of friends; a really lovely day of fun, friendship and faith.
