An URGENT Appeal from Walmsley Beavers
CAN YOU HELP YOUR COMMUNITY?
AN URGENT REQUEST FROM ANDREW JAMIESON FOR VOLUNTEERS TO HELP RUN A BEAVER PACK
78th Christ Church Walmsley scout group is a popular and well established group. We currently have 16 children old enough to be in beavers (a full beaver colony is suggested to be 18 children) but we cannot currently offer these children a space.
During the summer one of our beaver leaders unfortunately made the decision to leave 78th. At the moment, as we are meeting virtually this does not create a problem, however when this ends we will not have enough leaders to restart face to face beaver meetings. If we do not get more volunteer beaver leaders identified we will have to consider closing the beaver colony.
We are seeking as a minimum one person to join with the current beaver leader. We need a minimum of three leaders to take all the children off the waiting list and create a second beaver colony. Ideally, we will get more volunteers than this so that we are able to “job share” meaning less for each person to do. This is a good opportunity for anyone interested in being a leader at the group, but depending on preferences, this can either be with an experienced leader, or the chance to join up with friends to run a second colony. In any event, full training and support would be provided and 78th beavers would then go from surviving to thriving.
I appreciate stepping forward to help can be daunting, and that you might have some questions. Please feel free to approach me or any leader with any thoughts or concerns you might have and we will be able to help. To answer a common query before it is asked, children of leaders who are waiting for a space are likely to be considered favourably when a beavers place becomes available. Of course, we would need a definite commitment from you as a leader in order for this to be a possibility.
Many thanks,
Andrew Jamieson – Group scout leader
