This report from our Church Warden, Kath Pearson, featured in the October Walmsley Parish E-news:

Many of you will have seen the scaffolding against the Church over the summer. We are having extensive repairs done, however as with all old buildings more problems have come to light. We plan in the spring to have specialist scaffolding up to give access to the high nave roof and the side aisle roofs. This will enable a more comprehensive examination to confirm what future repair action is required.

Over last winter the boilers both in the Church and the Parish Hall have been stuttering along. The boilers are obsolete and require replacement. We have spent the summer gaining reports and approval for works to be carried out. The Parish Hall has the go ahead for their boiler and the works will start on the 13th October. This has necessitated the reassignment of the previous fundraising monies for the toilets to enable this more essential works.

While we have all the information to replace the boiler at the Church, we have found the boiler house roof needs significant repair, and we are awaiting drawings, which we need to submit to the Diocese for approval.

There is also further work we would like to be able to do in the future. Beyond the work which will be required on the Church roof, both buildings need their internal walls repairing and redecorating. The Hall will still need new toilets, a disabled ramp to the back entrance and the carpark re tarmacking to name but a few.

As you will appreciate, all this work will cost a significant amount of money. Although both the Church and the Hall have funds for the boiler replacements, they have very limited funds for any other works. To this end we have set up a fundraising group to organise concerts and events at both the church and the hall for entertainment of our local community and which we hope you will attend to support us. We are also contacting local businesses to see if they are willing to support us in any way.

We intend to find grants which can help both buildings. If there is anyone out there who has knowledge in grant applications and would like to share it, your help and support will be greatly appreciated. Please get in touch: kath@walmsleyparish.org

If you would like to donate, please use the QR codes shown. There is the option to donate to either the Church or the Hall.
Kind regards Kath Pearson – Church Warden
