CELEBRATING 25 YEARS of COFFEE MORNINGS at Walmsley Parish Community Hall

How fabulous to celebrate TWENTY-FIVE years of COFFEE MORNINGS at WALMSLEY PARISH COMMUNITY HALL 🎉🩶🫶

Thank you everyone for your support over the years … and special thanks to David & Kath Rushton + Edna Welsby who started it all off 💗

Today, Bucks Fizz was served on entry + Kath R’s delicious cake … and the Hall was beautifully decorated  with sparkling silver table decorations + balloons.

We have been welcoming friends and neighbours from church and the local community –  and beyond – to our monthly  COFFEE MORNINGS/CAFÉ IN THE HALL for 25 years  and on Saturday 17 January it was exactly 25 years since these social & community fund-raising events started (JANUARY 2001 !!!), raising £110,000 for Christ Church Walmsley funds. The special theme was SILVER 🩶 😊 … and the usual tasty breakfasts + sausage & bacon barms, cuppas, cakes, books, jewellery, etc… were available.

This fundraising venture began after Marjorie Isherwood ended her popular Craft Group get-togethers and the idea of holding a monthly, fund-raising coffee morning was mooted and discussed with the Vicar at the time: Revd David Brierley.

Kath & David Rushton + Edna Welsby have been organisers and stalwarts at this event over many years … and these days you can see Wendy Bradburn, Anne McCreesh and Kim Clark working tirelessly over a hot stove in the Hall kitchen … with the help of many amazing volunteers who serve food and wash up. Jo Woods & Edna oversee the sale of delicious cakes & preserves, Angela creates a tempting array of jewellery to buy, Irene & Derek Bailey are on hand at the Book Stall, whilst David R will tempt you to buy a raffle ticket and Kath R oversees the bric-a-brac stall. The photo below is from our 20th anniversary of coffee mornings…

Laptop, Mobile and Tablet Help & Support ~ Ask us ANYTHING! Nikki Barlow will be on hand to deal with any of your tech problems. Open to the Parish, the Team, the Mission Community, the local community and beyond! So please come along with or without a device and ask away. Never miss an opportunity to learn a new skill, and spread the word…

Here’s a message from Nikki:

Hello, lovely people of Egerton and beyond!

I’m Nikki Barlow – a mum of two, a business owner, Treasurer at St Anne & St James, and someone who just really loves helping people. Life is busy (understatement of the year!), but I’ve always believed in giving back where I can. That’s why I set up the Turton Moorland Team Tech Club – a free, friendly space where you can get tech help, no matter how big or small the issue.
Why am I telling you this?
Because right now, I’m often sat alone at a table with my laptop, ready to help, but with only a handful of people turning up. I want to help more! Please spread the word – pop by, ask a question, bring a friend. I promise I don’t bite!
What’s new?
We recently secured a grant from Bolton Digital Inclusion Partnership, Bolton Council, which has allowed us to install WiFi throughout the entire building!
  • If you connect to the guest WiFi, that’s thanks to the Tech Club!
  • Need a stronger, faster connection? Use this password: Tech@2024
How can you help?
If I’ve helped you today – or if you’ve simply benefited from the WiFi – I’d really appreciate it if you could take five minutes to complete our feedback form:  https://forms.gle/BMXAzokVdAj56pS56 or use the QR code.
This will help me show Bolton Council how we’re making a difference and hopefully secure more support to keep the club running.
Need tech help? Just pop in!
Whether you need help setting up an email, figuring out your smartphone, learning how to stay safe online, or just want to chat about tech, come say hello. You’ll find me here, waiting to help – let’s not waste this fantastic resource!
 See you soon, Nikki
P.S. If you can’t make it but know someone who would benefit, please pass this on! The more, the merrier.
