Open for Worship
Christ Church Walmsley is now open for Worship
- Sundays at 9:30 am from 12 July
- Wednesdays at 11:00 am from 15 July
With the approval of Walmsley Parish PCC and following all Government, Church of England and Manchester Diocesan guidelines, we are pleased to announce that we will be open for PUBLIC WORSHIP from Sunday 12 July at 9:30 am and for a mid-week service from Wednesday 15 July 11:00 am.
Please DO NOT attend if you are unwell, showing symptoms of coronavirus, self-isolating or have been in contact with anyone displaying symptoms.
Social distancing and hygienic measures will be in place. There will be limited access to the toilets. Please follow the instructions of and advice of our welcomers.
Providing for our worship needs
As we are emerging from these months of Lockdown, with its enforced suspension of public worship, we are looking to re-open for services here at Christ Church Walmsley. We are going to have to learn how to best provide for our worship needs.
Whilst we would like to see everyone in church, we have to work with the building so numbers will need to be limited. If more people turn up than we are able to accommodate, please be understanding. The Sunday Service will be repeated on Wednesday so, if you are able to come to the mid-week service, please do so to allow those who are working to attend on Sunday.
Services will be more reflective with quiet responses and no singing. We are asked to minimize movement and observe social distancing, which means that for the first weeks, the services will not be Holy Communion. Families are welcome, but services will not be as lively as we would normally have when children are present, with everyone needing to remain quietly seated. The balcony will not be in use due to the narrow staircase and accessing the handrail. We have only one toilet and this will be for emergency use only.
These are the provisional arrangements for the next few weeks, based on current government and Diocesan guidelines. We are doing our best in the present circumstances; please help us to make this work.
Thank you.

Before you attend, please read this information sheet with details of what we have done and what we need you to do to keep everyone safe.
Provisional update on the recording of church attendance for the
purposes of school admissions in September 2021:
The Bishop Fraser Trust Schools (Canon Slade, St James’s, Farnworth and St Catherine’s Academy, Bolton) and Walmsley Primary School all take the view that, since churches/places of worship were closed to public worship from 17th March – and those churches/ places of worship able to re-open for public worship are likely to place restrictions on the scope of services offered and/or numbers that can be accommodated – attendance records will not be required for the period after 17th March 2020. Completion of the register of attendance for school admission purposes will therefore be suspended until further notice.
