‘Rector’s Ramble’ for NOVEMBER 2025 from Revd Ian Hepburn

Remember, remember the fifth of November…’

…can you finish the rhyme?

November has many opportunities to remember together, from bonfire night and the fireworks reminding us of the foiled attempt by Guy Fawkes to blow up the Houses of Parliament, to our national acts of Remembrance, honouring and remembering those who have served in the Armed Forces and those who gave their lives in two World Wars.

It’s also the season of treacle toffees, soups and stews, apple pies and everything pumpkin, including two favourites in our household which never fail to remind us of our American friends and relatives: pumpkin pie and pumpkin spiced lattés!

And there will be plenty of coffees (and teas!) to be drunk in our churches over the course of November, as we celebrate Kingdom Season – the period between All Saints Day and the beginning of Advent which culminates in Christ the King Sunday at the end of November. The seasonal church prayers (known as Collects) help us reflect on the ‘gentle rule’ of Christ’s Kingdom, and how, together, as citizens of that kingdom we might share with others the good fruit’s Christ has given to us. On the Feast of Christ the King on 23rd November we’re looking forward to +David leading our service of Confirmation, for children, young people and adult candidates alike. And we’re thrilled by the journey of faith taken by all our candidates.

Although the nights are drawing in and we tend to batten down the hatches a little bit more in the winter months, there are plenty of opportunities to get together for services, concerts and events in all our churches across the Turton Moorland Team. Do join us and bring your family and friends.

We look forward to seeing you.

Love and best wishes,

Revd Ian Hepburn
